James Craig

M, (circa 1724 - circa 1812)
Land owned by Joseph West
  • Birth*: James Craig was born circa 1724. The earliest information that has been found about his father, James Craig (aka Creage), weaver, is when he purchased 100 acres in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, from David and Margaret Cloyd, 2 April 1733.
  • James Craig was the son of James Craig (Creage) and (?) Unknown.
  • Marriage*: The marriage of James Craig and Jane Wetherow, 7 April 1759, by Erick Unander, is documented in the records of Old Swedes Church and Delaware Archives1. The name "Jane" is also substantiated as the wife of James in Indentures made in both DE and VA. The records of Old Swedes Church contain the name of another James Craig that may be of interest. A James Craig and Prudence Holland were married, 4 Dec 1755, by Israel Acrelius, Minister2,3. Nothing more is known about this couple. Holy Trinity (Old Swedes) Church in Wilmington, Delaware is, in one respect, the nation's oldest church. It stands as originally built and has remained in regular use as a place of worship as seen in Figure 2.4
  • Death*: James Craig died circa 1812in Loudoun Co., VA.
